Calling All American Civil War Buffs!

Forward! March! Civil War buffs, this is the camp for you! The past will come alive through a series of audio-visual presentations including firsthand accounts from soldiers and civilians, original battlefield photographs, and film clips. Learn about both Union and Confederate armies and their battles, and the generals who led them. Come and discover the how and why behind the major battles of the war. Please note: PG-13 rated film clips contain mild battle violence.

Day in Court

Play the roles of judge, defendant, plaintiff, witness, lawyer, bailiff or juror in several mock trials. Learn how to make opening and closing statements, how to phrase objections and how to question witnesses. Pull all your skills together at the end of the week as you participate in a final mock trial based on actual
events. Family and friends invited to watch!

Paranormal Investigators Wanted!

Are you a fan of ghost hunting shows on TV? This is your chance for hands-on experience using EMF and K-2 Meters, the SB-7 Radio, static detectors, and laser grids. Explore the methods and technology used by ghost hunters. Discuss the Salem Witch Trials, Amityville and Roswell. Examine audiovisual
evidence as well as the history behind famous legends and lore. Camp concludes with field trip to the historic (and haunted) Strauss Mansion Museum in Atlantic Highlands. Note: this camp deals with theories and assessments of unexplained phenomena that may not be suitable for some children.

JFK Assassination Investigation and Mock Trial

Conduct a week-long investigation into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Did Lee Harvey Oswald act alone or was he part of a conspiracy? We will study audiovisual evidence, eye witness statements, and medical reports to see if we can find the answer. The camp will end with a debate and
mock trial of Lee Harvey Oswald.

Politics and Debate Camp

Calling all young debaters and politicians! Join us as we examine social and political theories, laws, and governments from around the world and how they impact societies. Current “hot topics” events, and what’s going on in the world will guide us throughout the week as we discuss and debate. Examine
pivotal moments in history. No two camps are alike! Be prepared for an intense week of debating and critical thinking. Debate teams are welcome to bring their own material to sharpen their skills.

Global Citizenship

Do current events make you wish to change the world? Begin the journey–become a voice for change. Explore contemporary issues in human rights and social justice. Guest speakers and diverse resources will aide our discovery of what it means to be a global citizen. Create a plan to address a global or local
problem. Develop your voice as an activist. This unique newly developed program will take place at the Chhange Center at Brookdale. Join us and get inspired and empowered.
