Take your stop motion movies to the next level. First, create a story with Stikbots, Legos, action figures or all three! Then watch your story come to life using special stop motion software that allows you to add special  effects and go beyond the typical software on a mobile device. Make Your First Video Game!

If you love playing video games, this is the camp for you! Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind class that shows you the keys to designing your ​​first 2D ​​platformer ​​game. Conceptualization, play experience, level design, graphics, sounds, and simple coding are just some of the concepts that we’ll explore. No prior experience necessary. Student created games will be available on a password protected Black Rocket website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers, Mac versions can be created after the program for $15 conversion fee. Students will work in pairs or teams for most of the program. Returning students can create more advanced projects that build on previous years.

Minecraft© Modders  

Use your favorite game to learn the basics of modding and foundations of programming. Learn scripting and logic statements as you create your first mods! Introductory coding is  taught through a simulated  environment inspired by Minecraft. Student projects will be available on a password protected Black Rocket  website to share with friends and family. ​Students must own a Java version of Minecraft to access their projects at home​​. Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your own game app! Using a specialized app & game development tool, students will explore the world of web-based (HTML5)​mobile​apps. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you will also see firsthand how the world of App publishing functions. Student-created apps will be accessible on a private site and can be played on any mobile device or computer. Virtual Reality: The Future is Now

Embark on an EPIC adventure in virtual reality! In this cutting-edge class, you’ll ​learn the foundations of VR design by ​creating your own ​virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, take home your cardboard VR headset to show friends and family the new worlds you created. VR projects can be viewed on a website or a mobile device. Students do not need a mobile device to take the class, but to use the VR headset a camper will need access to an Android or Apple mobile device. CODE! A Smart Start To Computer Science Basics

A creative environment for learning basic coding and computer science uses a mix of online activities and “unplugged” hands-on activities. This camp nurtures creativity, problem solving, collaboration, and logic through tutorials like Star Wars, Minecraft, and more. Every camper will have access to all the online computer activities outside the classroom during and after the completion of camp.

Engineering Explorations

As an engineer you will learn physical science concepts and use them as you design, construct, test and analyze results. Then, you will reconstruct, retest and reanalyze results to determine whether design modifications were effective. Design and construction competitions may include bridges, roller coasters and amusement park rides, electric circuits, rockets and space vehicles, energy efficient buildings and interactive computer challenges.

Secret Agent Lab- A Mad Science Camp

Look out 007!  From decoding messages to experimenting with metal detectors and night vision, campers have the opportunity to check out spy equipment and step into the shoes of a detective!  We’ll uncover the science involved in gathering and analyzing evidence and the technology behind locks, surveillance systems and alarms.  To test the limits of magnified observation, junior science sleuths will build their own binoculars and develop ways to work together to refine their observation skills.  Campers will use what they have learned as they find, collect, and analyze evidence and connect the dots to solve a simulated crime scene

NASA & Mad Science: Future Space Explorers

Mad Science has teamed up with NASA in a quest for exploration! We’ll take a voyage of discovery into the atmosphere and beyond as we explore planets, moons, and other space phenomena in our solar system. Campers will investigate the mechanics of unique flying machines, such as balloon-copters, boomerangs, and mini hovercrafts.  We’ll learn how early “pilots” navigated throughout space as we create our own sextant and sundial. Explore the challenges of living in space as we assemble a satellite while training to be an astronaut. We will build our own Mad Science rocket, and participate in a real “NASA” style rocket launch.  Mad Science is the only organization licensed by NASA to use these activities for Summer Camps.

From collecting sea creatures in Sandy Hook Bay, hunting for fossils from the ocean’s past, to exploring our changing coastal environments, lighthouses, historic Fort Hancock and more, join us for 5 days of discovery at our Jersey seashore. Our daily Ocean Adventure field trips and activities are so much fun it will be hard to believe that you’re learning.
